Yolandi Schoeman

Yolandi Schoeman is the founder of Baoberry and is currently the Managing Director. For Yolandi Schoeman it is all about innovation and creating sustainable ecosystems.

Yolandi Schoeman is a DTech Degree candidate in Environmental Engineering (Civil Engineering), specialising in Industrial Ecology (completion date 2017).

She also holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Management (2010) that specialised in Industrial Ecology (thesis component). She is also in the process to complete a MPhil Degree in Integrated Water Resource Management, through an Australian University focusing on the diffusion of eco-technology / green infrastructure.

She has over 10 years’ experience in Environmental and Waste Management and has been involved in a number of very interesting and ground breaking environmental projects. Previous employers include Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium Limited, CSIR, SANParks, Singita Lebombo, Private Game Reserves, Engineering Consulting firms and Tertiary Education Institutions.

She is also a certified Environmental Impact Assessment Practitioner with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners of South Africa Association.

Yolandi has developed various ecological engineering innovations and concepts and the AqueouSphere Floating Treatment Wetlands won the Eco-Innovations award at the Eco-Logic awards 2015/2016. 

She is also the founder of the Ecological Engineering Institute of Africa ( together with the founder of the organisations’ Youth initiative: Little Neutrons which is a science and ecological engineering initiative for ages 3-18. 

Previous achievements include Top BTech Student in Nature Conservation (2003), Brightest Young Minds Alumni (2006), receiving the Toll- and Annette Pienaar Trophy during 2002 (in Skukuza) and various conference awards for presentations and posters presented at environmental management related conferences. She has also been invited several times to present on Environmental Management related topics at Conferences.

She is also 1 of 200 Mail and Guardian’s Young South Africans for 2015.

 Yolandi Schoeman is also a winner in the Green City Startup 2015 (3 rd place) which focuses on green technology where she developed the AqueouSphere floating treatment wetland islands that targets water contamination challenges with associated community benefits. Yolandi is also a GCIP semi-finalist 2016. 

Chris van Renssen

Chris van Renssen is a professional registered Civil Engineer and provides professional engineering design and planning services in the mining and industrial sectors. Applying 25 years of experience and knowledge in the sector to use in exciting projects throughout Africa. Working within project teams on concept development, project planning, project management, detailed design, oversight and training of young engineers and construction management review.

Previous employment positions include: Business Unit Leader - Construction Services (Golder Associates Africa); Managing Director (African EPA); Founding Partner (Van Renssen and Fortuin) amongst other.

Chris is an associate of Baoberry and brings with new technology and exciting solutions in inland dredging services with its main focus on environmental clean-up, dam restoration and dredge mining projects in Southern Africa.

Backed by professional engineering skills and years of practical experience from all over the globe. We take on every challenge in a scientific, cost effective and practical way. We use only state of the art equipment, designed, manufactured and tested by our technology partners, to provide a highly efficient and quality service on all projects at hand.

Dr Glenn Dale

PhD, MBA, BSc (Forestry)(Hons), BSc (Biochemistry)

Glenn founded Verterra (formerly TCT) in 1999 in Australia, following an early career in tropical forest inventory and management, and completion of doctoral studies in molecular genetics and tree breeding, and postdoctoral studies (US) in plant genetics. In partnership with Yates Ltd, he also established Saltgrow Pty Ltd to develop and commercialize clonal eucalypt hybrids for salt and drought tolerance. This work was nominated as a finalist (Institution of Engineers Australia National Salinity Prize 2002) and was runner up (Australian Museum Eureka Science Prize for Industry 2004). Glenn’s experience encompasses both international projects as well as technical management of several large commercial forest biotechnology research projects in Australia. Dr Glenn Dale is an associate of Baoberry and provides expert advice and input on ecological engineering related projects.

Ben Theron 

Ben Theron is a professionally registered engineer and an associate of Baoberry. Ben brings with many years of engineering experience to the team and provides expert input, designs and solutions to agricultural and civil engineering related projects ranging over the complete project lifecycle. Ben is extremely knowledgeable on services provision, including water infrastructure and associated services, amongst other.
